WordPress Media Upload – HTTP Error

At some time or another we have all come across unhelpful error messages. Well, my most recent encounter was whilst trying to upload some media files in WordPress. It simply read “HTTP Error”. This was after it appeared to have reached 100% upload and finished crunching. Not only would it have been easy to miss, but it was very unhelpful.

Long story short, there are a multitude of reasons you could get this error, and there are plenty of other posts out there that cover all the others, but mine was purely due to the filename. It included the apostrophe (‘) character which apparently along with other special characters such as international language symbols cause problems in WordPress. Note, dashes (-) and underscores (_) are fine.
